Lots of people seem very whiny about Arcade Fire winning the grammy for best whateverwhatever. (Weirdly people also seem bent out of shape about Esperanza Spaulding, who I think is just awesome). But I wonder how they can resist this? Maybe it's just me who finds the combination of instruments from the orchestra (the place where I spent much of my youth, wearing Doc Martens and sawing away at the violin-- 1st chair, second violin, baby!) and the Clash (from my fave Clash album no less!) delightful. Also, I do have a weakness for overlarge bands that play kind of hip music on surprising instruments. If it is a band that includes a tuba, a cello, an accordian, and someone on the saw, playing GWAR songs as they would sound in the style of a circus accompaniment band.... well, let's just say that I really wish that band existed.
Also? That's a hurdy gurdy. A FRIGGING HURDY GURDY. I'm pretty sure that my dream band would be a trio: one squeezbox, one hurdy gurdy, and a saw. If Arcade Fire could just get a saw in the mix.
